Regenerative Farm Design Service

The ask

Build a design-and-build consultancy that surveys existing Bangladeshi farmland, produces a multi-strata regenerative layout (food forest, integrated livestock, aquaculture), manages the transition implementation, and earns ongoing advisory retainers as farms move toward carbon-credit and premium-market certification.

Why now

Ridgedale Permaculture in Sweden demonstrated that designed regenerative farms can be commercially documented and taught at scale — their methodology is now widely copied across Europe and East Africa. Bangladesh's NGO and development-finance sector is awash with climate-adaptation programming looking for proven farm models to replicate. Soil carbon markets are beginning to pay for sequestration at farm level ($15–30/tonne CO₂e for Verra-verified projects), providing a revenue stream beyond food production.

Why Bangladesh

Bangladesh's fragmented landholding pattern (average farm size 0.6 ha) means most individual farms are too small for conventional advisory services — but an NGO or cooperative aggregating 200 smallholders is a natural single client. The country's flood-exposure means monoculture risk is extremely high; diversified farm systems are a genuine resilience upgrade, not just a story. Existing agroforestry traditions (homestead gardens, bari systems) give farmers a cultural foundation to build on rather than a blank-slate conversion.

As a business

Revenue per engagement: ৳3–8 lakh for a design and 12-month implementation support contract on a 10–50 ha block. The retainer model (৳50–120K/month per client cluster) provides recurring income once a portfolio of farms is under management. Carbon credit origination — verifying sequestration across a farmer network, bundling into a compliance or voluntary credit — is the margin-expansion lever that justifies the upfront cost of building measurement and verification systems.

Economics

Move the sliders to model a regenerative farm design consultancy. Defaults are order-of-magnitude estimates — pressure-testing them is part of what a founder pitches us.

What ZEPH would back

A founder who has designed and commissioned at least one functioning multi-strata farm in Bangladesh that has survived two monsoon cycles, and who has a pipeline of NGO or landowner clients willing to pay for the service. A carbon-origination partnership with a Verra or Gold Standard methodology developer would significantly strengthen the pitch.

Impact

Each farm converted from monoculture paddy to a multi-strata regenerative system sequesters an estimated 2–5 tCO₂e/ha/year in soil organic carbon, while cutting synthetic-fertiliser and pesticide purchases that currently drain hard currency and pollute Bangladesh's waterways. At 15 active retainer farms covering an average of 5 ha each, the service reduces chemical-input imports by an estimated USD 40 000–80 000 per year across the client base. Documented regenerative farms also unlock premium and export pricing for organic-certified produce, multiplying on-farm income and demonstrating a replicable pathway for Bangladesh's 16 million smallholders.
