Climate Crowdfunding Platform

The ask

Build a Bangladesh-anchored digital crowdfunding platform where individuals and SMEs fund verified climate and nature projects — solar for schools, mangrove restoration, biogas for farmers — and receive transparent, auditable impact reports on their contribution.

Why now

Bangladesh's domestic savings rate is rising and mobile money penetration now exceeds 85%; small-ticket giving infrastructure exists but impact-verified climate giving does not. MAS Regulation updates in South Asia are opening up retail investment-adjacent structures (impact bonds, outcome-linked giving) that create legal scaffolding for this model. Global precedents (Raise Green, Climate Coins) are demonstrating the demand side.

Why Bangladesh

Bangladesh is the world's most climate-vulnerable large economy yet climate finance flows primarily to large state projects — rural communities, school networks, and smallholder farmers are structurally excluded from green funding. A platform that routes ৳500–5,000 donations from urban diaspora and domestic professionals to verified rural climate projects addresses a real intermediation gap. The Bangladeshi diaspora (11+ million people) is a particularly motivated donor segment that currently lacks a credible local giving channel.

As a business

Revenue is a platform fee (5–8% of funds raised) plus an optional impact reporting subscription for corporate donors wanting ESG documentation. The platform does not hold funds — it aggregates verified project operators who manage disbursement. At scale, the database of verified outcome data becomes a valuable asset for carbon and biodiversity credit registries.

Economics

Move the sliders to model your own climate crowdfunding platform. Defaults are order-of-magnitude estimates — pressure-testing them is part of what a founder pitches us.

Illustrative model — defaults are order-of-magnitude estimates from public data, not a forecast. Pressure-test every number before you build.

What ZEPH would back

A founder with both fintech compliance knowledge (NGO bureau, BIDA registration, mobile money API relationships) and existing connections to 3–5 verified project operators ready to list on day one. The platform is worthless without compelling projects; the projects are stuck without a distribution channel — someone who has both sides is the rare find we are looking for.

Impact

A Bangladesh-anchored climate crowdfunding platform doesn't directly avoid carbon — it is the infrastructure that routes capital to projects that do. At ৳50 lakh/month in funds raised and assuming project operators achieve average impact of 1 tonne CO₂e per ৳10,000 deployed, the platform would catalyse roughly 500 tonnes of avoided emissions per month — growing proportionally as fundraising scale increases. The platform's diaspora channel is a genuine FX unlock: remittance-linked climate giving routes dollars and pounds from overseas workers into in-country projects rather than household consumption, multiplying developmental impact per dollar. Transparent outcome reporting also builds the verified data layer that Bangladesh's nascent voluntary carbon market desperately lacks.
